iOS 18

Described by the brand's followers as "ambitious and convincing" and even "relatively revolutionary,"  iOS 18, the next major software update for the iPhone, will be officially unveiled during the inaugural keynote. Barring any major surprises, this iteration, which could be deployed as early as the fall, should include multiple features powered by generative AI, thus allowing Apple to partially make up for its delay in this area.

The latest speculation suggests that Siri, the iPhone's virtual assistant, is powered by a large language model (LLM), which could be Gemini, with Apple having started negotiations with Google, according to Bloomberg. The integration of AI would notably allow users to automate complex tasks via voice control. It is also not impossible that iPhone owners will benefit from editorial assistance in the Pages and Messages applications or be able to automatically generate playlists on Apple Music thanks to the integration of artificial intelligence.

In addition, iOS 18 should support the Rich Communication Services (RCS) protocol and,  at the same time, benefit from a more customizable home screen where it will be possible to "create empty spaces, rows, and columns between application icons,"” predicts the specialized media MacRumors. Finally, a partial redesign of the design is also under study.

macOS 15

Like iOS, the macOS operating system should also benefit from features powered by generative artificial intelligence. But so far, no information has been released on this subject. Following tradition, this version should be named after a region in California.

Other updates: watchOS 11, TVOS 18, and VisionOS 2.

As the press release announces, the watchOS 11, TVOS 18, and VisionOS 2 versions will also be presented by Apple. The developments made to the operating system of the mixed reality headset, which is still not marketed in France, should be particularly scrutinized.
